Why Joint Venture

Clinical Acupuncture, Not Alternative Therapy

Delivered by a Physiotherapist

Acupuncture at Joint Venture is clinically integrated, not offered as a standalone therapy by a non-medical practitioner. Marcus uses it as part of a broader treatment strategy, selecting it when the clinical evidence supports it.

Clinically Evidenced

Marcus uses Western medical acupuncture, which is supported by research for pain management and muscle recovery. Sessions are evidence-based and outcome-focused.

Block Bookings Available

Acupuncture often produces the best results as a course of treatment. Block bookings of 6 sessions are available at a discounted rate, saving £38 versus individual session pricing.

Common Questions

Acupuncture FAQs

Questions about acupuncture or whether it's right for you? Call 07586 605462 for a free chat before booking.

What is the difference between acupuncture and physiotherapy acupuncture?

Western medical acupuncture (the type Marcus uses) is based on anatomy, physiology and clinical research. It differs from traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture, it is practised within a physiotherapy clinical framework, guided by your assessment findings.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most patients describe the needle insertion as minimal, a brief sensation rather than pain. Some people feel a dull ache or heaviness during treatment, which is a normal response. The needles used are very fine.

How many sessions will I need?

A typical course is 4–6 sessions, though some patients notice significant improvement after 2–3. Marcus will review your response and adjust the plan accordingly. Block bookings of 6 sessions are available.

Can acupuncture be combined with other physiotherapy treatment?

Yes, and this is often the most effective approach. Acupuncture can be integrated with manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation and other physiotherapy techniques as part of your overall treatment programme.

Are there any reasons I can't have acupuncture?

There are some contraindications, including certain blood thinning medications, pregnancy (some points) and needle phobia. Marcus will screen for these at your initial assessment. If you have any concerns, contact us before booking.

Is acupuncture covered by private health insurance?

Coverage varies by policy. Some insurers (including Bupa and AXA) cover acupuncture when delivered as part of a physiotherapy programme. Check your policy or contact us and we can help clarify.
